In defense of Mondays

I completely understand why so much hate is given to Monday. It is the start of the work week. Statistically a significant number of heart attacks occur Monday morning as opposed to every other day of the week. Even with all these negative characteristics, I often find Monday to be a better day for myself. Because for me, Monday is a brand new start. Why wait for January 1, when Monday come around typically every seven days? I am usually most prepared to face Monday, having Sunday to do chores and prepare for the work week. Monday is enjoyable, as the rest of the week I am starting from a behind position. Monday is also enjoyable as it can set the tone for the rest of the week.
Mondays, also represent a return to work, a return to being busy. The weekends present too much time for me to think about things, and this in turn leads to some sad thoughts. Mondays do not give me such free time to dwell on all that I don’t have. For this, I am incredibly thankful for Mondays. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my weekends too, but there is something much more pleasant to me to staying busy as opposed to scrolling through a social media feed and falling into the trap of comparison.
I am also incredibly fortunate to enjoy the work that I do. The weekend serves as a pause from the important work that I do over the week, and I am always excited and eager to get back to the tasks left unfinished Friday evening. I know there are many people who think my love for Mondays are unhealthy, but I just think it does not deserve all the hate that it gets. I will close on this as my last case to make in defense of Mondays. The weekends, for me, are incredibly lonely. At least one day I do not leave my apartment, Monday I am back to being around people, at the office, at the coffee shop. I enjoy Mondays, and I think there is a lot to them that make them great. It just all depends on how you choose to look at the start of your week.
